Looking for the perfect housewarming gift for your friend or neighbor? This guide is long-awaited and full of our team’s favorite ways to share the love and excitement of a new home. Let housewarming gifts become an exciting part of your routine again. As always, our favorite gifts are local ones, so we always recommend shopping in your community to find something extra special! Here are a few of our favorite items to include in housewarming gifts:
Plants
Plants are a fantastic gift idea to warm up a new home with some greenery. We recommend succulents, a Snake plant, or a Pothos plant. These are easy to take care of and very forgiving for someone without a “green thumb”! Lowe’s or Trader Joe’s have a great selection that won’t break the bank. For a local Spokane plant shop, our favorites are Parrish and Grove, and Fern. Both shops allow you to pick out your plant and have it potted in-house, allowing you to leave with your housewarming gift all ready to go!
Kitchen and Cookware
Do the new homeowners love to cook? You can never have enough cookware or kitchen supplies, especially when you are moving into a new home! Find out about your new neighbor’s kitchen and what their color scheme and style are, then gift from there. Pairing a few things together like an enamel salad bowl, a dish towel, and a set of wooden salad tongs is a great way to say “welcome to the neighborhood”! For a local favorite, check out KJ Pottery for some beautiful hand-made mugs, plates, and bowls.
Cozy Blanket
A cozy blanket is a perfect addition to help your friends unwind after the long days of moving and unloading boxes. It will also help cozy up their new living space! Saranoni has amazing affordable, luxurious blankets, or you can swing by your local Target to find a great selection of blankets and throws in a pinch. Pair this with your favorite local treat (hello Davenport Peanut Brittle) for the ultimate cozy gift!
Art Print
A simple piece of art can brighten up any space and help turn a house into a home. Wall art can be fun and sophisticated, and adding a simple frame can bring a sense of being “put together” as the house move-in process comes along. One of my team’s favorite local artists is Chris Bovey, who creates art prints highlighting different neighborhoods and features of Spokane. Check out his Etsy, or purchase in-store at Atticus downtown!
Local Coffee
Who doesn’t love a fresh coffee roast as they are getting unpacked in their new home? A pound of fresh ground coffee from your favorite coffee house can be the finishing touch to your housewarming gift. My favorites in town are Indaba (Lilac City roast is amazing!) and Evans Brothers (hand-roasted in Sandpoint, ID!). Pair this with a fun mug and you are set with this easy housewarming gift!
Gathered Gift
Gathered Gift is a luxury, curated gifting service to help you put together a truly one-of-a-kind gift. This is one of our favorite small businesses here in Spokane! We love partnering with the incredible owner, Tara, who is always working her magic to collect beautiful pieces that make a client feel celebrated and cherished. So, if you’re looking to avoid the lines and empty-shelf frustrations, this may be a great option for you. (Hint: Husbands, boyfriends and those of you who struggle with gift-giving, let this be your secret from here on out!)
I hope this guide helps you come up with the perfect gift to welcome your friend to the neighborhood! We believe in celebrating everything– especially the purchase of a new home.
Happy gifting!
